Western Region crisis and emergency rule

The Action Group split around Obafemi Awolowo and Samuel Ladoke Akintola, producing disorder in the Western House of Assembly and federal emergency intervention. The crisis weakened the main opposition party and showed how regional party conflict could pull the federal government into local legitimacy battles.
