What happened

In 2021, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu, former Chief of Air Staff of the Nigerian Air Force, faced trial for alleged fraud involving N21.4 billion in military procurement funds. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) brought charges against Amosu and other former Air Force officials, alleging misappropriation of funds meant for aircraft and equipment purchases during his tenure from 2010 to 2014. The case was part of broader anti-corruption efforts targeting high-ranking military officers.

The charges stemmed from investigations into military spending during the height of Nigeria's fight against Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast. During this period, the military received substantial budget allocations for equipment and operations, but questions arose about procurement processes and fund management. The EFCC's pursuit of the case reflected the agency's expanded focus on military corruption cases under the Buhari administration's anti-corruption campaign. However, by December 2025, the Court of Appeal dismissed the EFCC's case, affirming Amosu's earlier acquittal.
