Ayodele Fayose

Ayodele Fayose began his first term as Governor of Ekiti State in 2003, marking the start of a controversial political career that would span two non-consecutive terms. Known for his populist style and direct confrontations with federal authorities, Fayose became one of Nigeria's most polarizing state governors. His tenure was marked by allegations of financial impropriety that would follow him throughout his political career, leading to extensive legal battles with anti-corruption agencies.

Fayose's rise occurred during Nigeria's Fourth Republic when democratic institutions were still consolidating after decades of military rule. His first governorship coincided with President Obasanjo's administration, setting the stage for frequent clashes between state and federal governments.
