Dele Alake

In August 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Henry Dele Alake as Minister of Solid Minerals Development, placing him in charge of Nigeria's mining sector and mineral resources portfolio. Alake, a veteran journalist and communications strategist, had previously served as Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy following Tinubu's inauguration in May 2023. His appointment came as part of Tinubu's cabinet formation during the early months of the Fourth Republic's newest administration.

Alake's relationship with Tinubu spans over two decades, beginning during Tinubu's tenure as Lagos State Governor from 1999 to 2007, where Alake served as Commissioner for Information and Strategy. A former journalist with experience at publications including The Guardian newspaper, Alake became one of Tinubu's most trusted political advisers and media strategists. His role evolved from state-level communications to national political consulting as Tinubu's influence expanded beyond Lagos to national politics, culminating in the 2023 presidential campaign.
