Jona Jang

Jona Jang began his tenure as Governor of Plateau State in 2007, serving two terms until 2015 during Nigeria's Fourth Republic. His administration oversaw the state during a period of significant ethnic and religious tensions, particularly in Jos and surrounding areas. Jang, a retired military officer and member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), had previously served in various capacities before entering civilian politics.

Plateau State had experienced recurring communal conflicts between Christian and Muslim communities, often framed around disputes between indigenous groups and settler populations. These tensions escalated during the 2000s, with Jos becoming a flashpoint for violence that claimed thousands of lives. Jang's administration was tasked with managing these complex security challenges while also addressing the state's development needs and governance issues.
