What happened

Jumoke Akinjide, who served as Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory from 2014 to 2015 under President Goodluck Jonathan, was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on corruption charges. The charges stemmed from allegations that she received funds improperly during her tenure in the Jonathan administration. Her case became part of a broader anti-corruption drive that intensified after the 2015 general elections.

Akinjide's legal troubles emerged during the transition period following President Muhammadu Buhari's electoral victory in 2015, when his administration launched investigations into the previous government's financial dealings. The EFCC, under new leadership, began pursuing cases against several former ministers and officials from the Jonathan era. These investigations reflected the new administration's campaign promise to tackle corruption and recover allegedly stolen public funds.
