What happened

At the beginning of the nineteenth century Benin made a major military effort that led to the reconquest of Akure and the imposition of Benin control over much of Ekiti country. This action showed that the basic, well-tried political structure of Benin had been preserved and continued to function. On the eve of the British conquest, preparations were also in hand for an expedition to subdue a rebellion at Agbor.
