What happened

A museum for the stone heads of Esie was established there in 1945, following the inauguration of the Nigerian Antiquities Service in July 1943. Bernard Fagg, who had read Archaeology and Anthropology at Cambridge before joining the Nigerian Administrative Service, was transferred to the Antiquities Service and was responsible for establishing the archaeological headquarters at Jos.
