Food production widely adopted across Nigeria

From the evidence at present available, it seems likely that by about 1000 BC people in many parts of Nigeria had adopted systems of producing food in place of complete dependence upon hunting, fishing and gathering. These activities continued as supplementary means of obtaining food, but an agricultural base had been established. This made a more receptive milieu for the subsequent development of metallurgy.
