What happened

By the 17th century the Idah (Igala) kingdom was a major influence on the north-western Igbo area, with traditions of Igala military actions on the Nsukka area centred on the legendary giant Onu Ojo Ogboni. Igala contact led to extensive Igbo borrowings of vocabulary, titles, masquerades and facial marks; Nsukka elites taking titles travelled to Idah as part of initiation.
