What happened

Iron occurred for the first time some 2–4 m above the bottom of the Daima mound, but the radiocarbon analyses are difficult to interpret precisely. The first appearance of iron is now put in the fifth or sixth century AD, although earlier it had been thought to date to the last century BC. Iron-using levels show new pottery styles, different figurine types (long-legged, spiky animals and first human figurines), and ornaments of carnelian, bronze, crystal and ostrich egg-shell.
