What happened
Alafin Ajagbo, second in the king-list after Obalokun, is credited by tradition with a reign of 140 years—clearly exaggerated—but Law places his actual reign as occupying most of the latter half of the seventeenth century, with accession around or before the mid-century. Ajagbo waged a successful war against the Onisambo of Ogboro (about 50 miles west of Oyo Ile), who was assisted by the towns of Imeri, Tede, and Igbonna. This war transferred regional headship in northern Yorubaland from Ogboro to Oyo.
