Mai Ali Gaja founds Borno with a new capital at Gazargamu

After the Saifawa abandoned Kanem under Bulala pressure, Mai Ali Gaja around 1470 stabilized the new state of Borno and founded a capital at Gazargamu on the river Yobe, between mineral-rich western areas and eastern agricultural lands. This marks the transition from the First to the Second Kanuri Empire.
