Nigerian Museum opened in Lagos

The Nigerian Museum in Lagos was opened in 1957. It became the national repository for major archaeological finds including objects from Igbo-Ukwu, Ife and Benin. Kenneth Murray had made a large personal collection of Nigerian works of art which he gave to the museum when it was established.
