What happened

Late in Onigbogi's reign the Tapa (Nupe) sacked Oyo, driving the people into Bariba (Borgu) country. The Egungun cult was introduced from the Tapa country during this exile. Under Eguguoju the refugees founded Igboho; later Orompoto defeated the Bariba at the battle of Ilayi and Ajiboyede decisively defeated the Tapa, enabling the reoccupation of Oyo Ajaka under Abipa towards the end of the 16th century.
