By the early sixteenth century Oyo had moved its capital roughly forty miles west of Oyo Ile to Igboho, while in exile from Nupe pressure. Later in the sixteenth century, under Alafin Ajiboyede, the Oyo defeated the Nupe and reclaimed Oyo Ile.
