Between 1620 and about 1650 Portuguese trade with "Warri" had dwindled to vanishing point, leaving Warri the one coastal port still open to the surviving trickle of Portuguese commerce; in 1673 the Olu wrote to the king of Portugal remarking on the rarity of Portuguese vessels.
