Rebellion of Ilorin's Muslim ruler against Oyo

In 1817 the ruler of Ilorin incited a rebellion of the Muslim elements in the Oyo kingdom. Ilorin was a subordinate town of the Oyo kingdom. This rebellion marked the first stage in the separation of Ilorin from Oyo authority, a process that culminated around 1823 when Muslims seized full control of Ilorin.
