Traditional dating of the dispersal of Oduduwa's children from Ife

Yoruba traditions hold that Oduduwa, when old and blind, gathered his sons at Ita Ijero in Ife and dispersed them to found kingdoms. The book reasons that if the potsherd pavements belong to the Oduduwa dynasty, the dispersal probably took place by the end of the 8th or beginning of the 9th century, founding the ebi (extended-family) system linking the kingdoms.
