Scandal

Abacha Loot (multi-jurisdiction asset recovery)

The umbrella scandal cluster covering the alleged siphoning of Nigerian public funds during the Abacha dictatorship (1993-1998) and the 25+ year multi-jurisdictional asset-recovery effort that has followed. Spans Switzerland, Jersey, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Liechtenstein as recovering jurisdictions. Cumulative recoveries approximately $2.4 billion (Monfrini). The amount_disbursed chain is the most ambiguous in Nigerian history — tranches repeatedly returned to NG without verifiable end-programme attribution.
