Abdullahi Mohammed

Major General Abdullahi Mohammed Adangba (rtd.) (1939 – 5 November 2025) was a Nigerian Army officer and statesman from Ilorin, Kwara State. Educated at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Director of Military Intelligence at the time of the July 1975 bloodless coup against Yakubu Gowon (in which he was a key conspirator alongside Yar'Adua, Buhari, Garba, and Taiwo); immediately appointed Military Governor of Benue-Plateau State by the new Murtala Mohammed regime; served roughly seven months until February/March 1976 when he was recalled to Lagos following Murtala's assassination. Subsequent positions: Director General of the newly established Nigeria Security Organisation (NSO); Director of Military Intelligence; National Security Adviser to General Abdulsalami Abubakar (1998–1999); first Chief of Staff to the President under Obasanjo (1999–2007) and re-appointed under Yar'Adua (2007–8 June 2008). Retired from public life thereafter; died in Abuja in November 2025. No corruption case in the corpus. Recommend `contextual` status; the Benue-Plateau anchor is historically accurate but the figure is more naturally catalogued at the national level.
