Ambrose Alli

First civilian Governor of Bendel State (1979–1983), Unity Party of Nigeria, professor of pathology. Convicted by Buhari-era military tribunal in 1984 of misappropriating ₦983,000 in road funds and sentenced to 100 years; released after Chief Gabriel Igbinedion paid a ₦1m fine. Widely viewed as a politically-motivated prosecution; posthumously pardoned by President Buhari in 2022. Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma is named after him.
