Convicted

Awwal Ibrahim

First civilian Governor of Niger State (NPN, October 1979 – October 1983). Convicted by a Buhari-era Special Military Tribunal in 1984 for abuse of power and corruption following the 31 December 1983 coup; barred for life in 1986 from public office and partisan politics. Later became Emir of Suleja in 1993 (deposed by Abacha 1994, restored 2000), a traditional throne he holds to this day. Buhari-era tribunal convictions are recorded as part of Nigeria's anti-corruption history although their procedural standards differed from regular courts. Currently respected as a traditional ruler; no further allegations recorded.
