Bamanga Muhammad Tukur

Alhaji Bamanga Muhammad Tukur (b. 15 September 1935, Adamawa State; holder of the traditional title **Tafidan Adamawa**) is a Nigerian veteran politician, businessman, and elder statesman. He earned an MSc from the University of Pittsburgh and was honored with an LLD from Benue State University. He rose through public service to become Chief Executive of the **Nigerian Ports Authority (1975–1982)**, where his tenure dealt with the historic 1975 cement-armada port-congestion crisis. In October 1983 he was elected Governor of Gongola State on the NPN platform during the Second Republic; his tenure lasted only ~3 months before the 31 December 1983 Buhari coup terminated civilian rule. He returned to national office as Federal **Minister of Industry (1993–1995)** under the Abacha regime. In March 2012, with President Goodluck Jonathan's backing, he was elected **PDP National Chairman**, a position he held until his forced resignation on 15 January 2014 amid the PDP factional crisis that produced the August 2013 "New PDP" splinter and the subsequent G7 / G5 gubernatorial defections to the APC (including Adamawa's own Murtala Nyako). As PDP Chairman during the post-2012 fuel-subsidy fraud waves, Tukur faced sustained ACN / opposition pressure to step down because of his son **Mahmud Bamanga Tukur**'s involvement in the EFCC fuel-subsidy-fraud probe; Mahmud was arraigned in July 2012 alongside the sons of late Alhaji Abdulazeez Arisekola Alao on a 9-count charge of subsidy fraud allegedly amounting to ~₦1.8 billion (initially) and ~₦8 billion (widened), and was re-arraigned in December 2014 and December 2016 (Premium Times, Daily Post, Vanguard). **Bamanga Tukur himself is not arraigned in the subsidy-fraud matter**; the corruption-case file conflates the father and son. For the Adamawa state audit anchor (Tukur is governor of pre-split Gongola, which is the historical predecessor of present-day Adamawa and Taraba), the structurally correct treatment is to flag the matter
