Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo
Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo served as the elected (UPN) Governor of Kwara State for only three months before the 31 December 1983 Buhari coup removed him. He was widely respected as a pro-democracy NADECO stalwart who fled into exile in 1996. The corruption allegations against him do not relate to his short governorship: in 2007, a Munich court found Siemens AG guilty of offering over $17m in bribes to Nigerian officials, including Adebayo (in his role as Federal Minister of Communications, July 2003 – September 2006). President Umaru Yar'Adua ordered an investigation; the ICPC and EFCC invited Adebayo for questioning in 2010. No charges were filed against Adebayo personally, and the matter did not progress to indictment. Status: `alleged` (Siemens bribery scandal — implicated by foreign judgment but never charged in Nigeria). Adebayo died 25 June 2025. Note: if the archive scope is strictly governorship-related corruption, this entry may belong instead at federal-minister scope.
