Dauda Lawal Dare

Sitting Governor of Zamfara State since May 2023 (PDP); banker (former First Bank executive director, 2012–2014) and Sanusi-era CBN special adviser on Islamic banking. The EFCC's $153m fraud case against him in his First Bank capacity (pre-governorship) was reportedly withdrawn by a new EFCC chairman per Sahara Reporters; the Supreme Court is said to have acquitted him of corruption charges on 12 March 2021. As governor, he commissioned the post-handover audit that produced the alleged N70bn–N528bn case against predecessor Matawalle. In a separate matter he was reportedly defrauded of US$6.3 million in a private-jet transaction by a Nigerian couple (Peoples Gazette) — he is the victim in that case. In April–May 2025 a group of former Matawalle-era commissioners petitioned the Zamfara State House of Assembly seeking his impeachment over alleged "extra-budgetary spending" (TheCable); this is a politically-motivated allegation from the rival faction and has not produced any formal proceeding.
