Idongesit Nkanga

Air Commodore Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga (27 January 1952 – 24 December 2020) was a Nigerian Air Force officer who served as the first Military Governor / Administrator of Akwa Ibom State from September 1990 to January 1992 under General Ibrahim Babangida, having been the founding administrator after the state's creation from Cross River in 1987 (his predecessors covered a brief 1987–1990 transition). His tenure's signature achievement was the commissioning of the Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC) on 27 July 1991. He handed over to Akpan Isemin at the start of the Third Republic. In retirement he chaired the Akwa Ibom Airport Implementation Committee (2007), culminating in the November 2009 opening of the Akwa Ibom International Airport; he later led PANDEF (Pan-Niger-Delta Forum). In May 2016 he was arrested by the EFCC in Port Harcourt and questioned over alleged receipt of ₦450 million from the $115 million 2015 election-bribery slush fund tied to former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke — funds allegedly deposited with Fidelity Bank and disbursed via Saint-Anthony Ejiowu in two tranches before the 2015 election. The EFCC stated he would be charged to court; no trial concluded before his December 2020 death from COVID-19 complications. Recommend `investigation` — the case is structurally analogous to other Diezani-$115m-recipient investigations (Nenadi Usman, Femi Fani-Kayode) and should link as a connected node in any Diezani-Alison-Madueke / 2015-campaign-funds scandal cluster.
