Idris Garba
Major General Idris Garba (b. July 1947, Gulu, Lapai LGA, Niger State) is a retired Nigerian Army officer who served as Military Governor of Benue State (December 1987 – August 1988) and subsequently Military Governor of Kano State (August 1989 – January 1992) under General Ibrahim Babangida. Battery commander during the final phases of the Nigerian Civil War; Chief Instructor at the School of Artillery, Kaduna (1973–1975); Pass Staff College (1978–1979); UNIFIL company commander (Lebanon 1980); Deputy Defence Adviser, Nigerian Embassy Moscow (1983–1986). His Benue tenure was brief (under one year). In Kano, his December 1991 edict centralising sports promotion under the Kano State Sports Council is the most notable concrete act. Retired during the Abacha-era purge of Babangida officers. No personal corruption case in the corpus. Recommend `contextual` status; primary anchor better catalogued under Kano.
