Plea bargain

Iyiola Omisore

Former Deputy Governor of Osun State (1999–2003) and Senator for Osun East (2003–2009); 2014 PDP Osun governorship candidate, defeated by Rauf Aregbesola. Was declared wanted by EFCC in May 2016 over the Dasukigate state-elections distribution; arrested 3 July 2016. EFCC traced ₦1.310bn from Sylvan McNamara in four tranches July–August 2014 to company accounts allegedly belonging to him (Sawanara, Fimex Gilt, Metropolitan Consortium). Initially denied involvement and sued EFCC for ₦10bn in defamation. After three weeks in EFCC custody, agreed in late July 2016 to refund the ₦1.3bn; released after ₦170m released from frozen accounts + ₦130m bank draft as first instalment. The refund-for-release arrangement is the canonical Dasukigate plea_bargain — not a court conviction, but a documented terminal disposition of the matter.
