Under investigation

Liyel Imoke

Senator Liyel Imoke (b. 5 December 1961) served as Governor of Cross River State (29 May 2007 – 29 May 2015, PDP, two terms), having previously been Minister of Power under Obasanjo (2003–2007) and a senator. His Cross River tenure was relatively low-controversy by Niger-Delta standards, focused on rural-development projects and the inherited Tinapa resort. Post-tenure he was questioned by the EFCC in connection with (i) the **Fidelity Bank $115m fraud matter** (Punch and Pointblank News, 2015–2017) and (ii) the **Diezani Alison-Madueke 2015-campaign bribe-disbursement matter** (Punch). No formal charge has been filed against Imoke; both lines remained at the "grilling/questioning" stage. The new APC successor administration under Ben Ayade subsequently signalled an intent to probe his Cross River administration (CrossRiverWatch reporting 2015), but no prosecution followed. Recommend `investigation` for the corruption archive.
