Scandal

Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project

Proposed 3,050MW hydroelectric plant in Taraba State, designed to be Nigeria's largest power facility. Awarded in 2003 by then Power Minister Olu Agunloye to Sunrise Power & Transmission for $6bn. Has stalled through successive administrations amid corruption allegations, contract disputes and a Sunrise $2.3bn arbitration claim in Paris. The Mamman conviction (May 2026) reconfirmed that funds released for Mambilla were diverted through private companies; the 2023 EFCC fraud/forgery charge against Agunloye over the original award remains on trial.
