Context

Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin

Michael Adekunle Ajasin was the UPN governor of old Ondo State 1979–1983, removed (along with all Second Republic governors) by the Buhari/Idiagbon coup of 31 December 1983. He was a foundational leader of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) during the Abacha years and was detained in 1995 for that pro-democracy activism. He is widely regarded as a man of integrity — famously remarking that he left office with the same set of native dresses he had on arrival. No corruption allegations are documented against him; Adekunle Ajasin University at Akungba-Akoko was named in his honour. Status: `contextual` (NADECO political detention, not a corruption case).
