Dismissed

Chief Michael Botmang

Chief Michael Botmang briefly served as Acting Governor of Plateau State from 13 November 2006 to 27 April 2007, between Joshua Dariye's controversial impeachment by 8 PDP lawmakers (later overturned by the Supreme Court) and Dariye's reinstatement. He was the first Plateau governor of Berom ethnic origin and had previously served three stints as Deputy Governor under Dariye. In July 2008 the EFCC arraigned him on a 31-count charge alleging embezzlement of N1.5 billion during his five-month acting tenure; he was released on bail after one month for UK medical treatment. On 12 June 2013 the EFCC withdrew all charges, formally accepting that the N1.5 billion in question was an Intercontinental Bank loan applied to workers' salaries and government activities. Botmang died of kidney disease on 18 January 2014. Recommend `dismissed` archive entry — charges were formally withdrawn, not adjudicated as guilty.
