Abdulfatai Omotayo Buhari (born 12 November 1965, Ogbomoso) has served three consecutive Senate terms for Oyo North since 2015, making him one of only a handful of senators to achieve that in the 10th Senate. His legislative record documents chairmanships of successive key committees: Vice-Chairman of Industry in the 8th Assembly, Chairman of Land and Marine Transport in the 9th Assembly, and Chairman of Aviation in the 10th Assembly. As Aviation Committee Chairman from August 2023, he sponsored motions on flight delays and cancellations (December 2024), the soaring domestic airfare crisis (December 2025), and the Air Peace runway overrun safety investigation (2025), the last of which produced a Senate committee report exonerating Air Peace but ordering systemic safety reforms. His most documentable constituency win in the current term is the signing into law by President Tinubu in July 2025 of the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology (FUNATO), Okeho, in the Oke-Ogun zone, a project whose passage Buhari publicly claimed to have driven through sustained lobbying. Personal-funds constituency interventions include the commissioning of 33 boreholes and 7 ICT centres (March 2021), serial women-entrepreneurship capacity-building programmes each covering the 13 LGAs and each disbursing N100,000 per beneficiary, and a large empowerment distribution at Soun Stadium, Ogbomoso in May 2026 reaching over 2,500 constituents. He also personally funded construction of the Ibapon Central Mosque, Ogbomoso, commissioned by Vice-President Shettima in November 2024. The 2023 election tribunal petition filed by Accord Party's Shina Peller was dismissed for failure to establish over-voting. Buhari has declared he will not seek a fourth Senate term, having filed for the 2027 Oyo State governorship.
