Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri
Governor of Adamawa State, Adamawa · PDP
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri presents a mixed record across seven years in office. On delivery, he paid counterpart funding that enabled over 341 km of RAMP-2 rural roads, implemented free primary and secondary education from inauguration, paid WAEC and NECO fees for qualifying students, launched Adamawa as the first state to pay the N70,000 minimum wage from August 2024, and cleared inherited pension and gratuity arrears dating to 1999. IGR grew from approximately N6.2 billion in 2019 to N16.2 billion in 2024, a 161 percent increase, though the absolute level remains among the lowest in Nigeria. A N225.8 billion 2024 budget was passed with a slight capital majority (50.7 percent), and domestic debt was cut 41.5 percent from N128 billion to N75 billion by September 2025. The 2023 re-election was marred by a REC's premature and unlawful declaration of the APC candidate as winner; INEC suspended the REC, re-collated results, and declared Fintiri winner; both the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court upheld that outcome. An EFCC arraignment on a N2.9 billion money-laundering charge arising from his 2014 acting-governorship remains active but effectively suspended at prosecution stage after more than a decade, with no conviction recorded. Fintiri defected from PDP to APC in February 2026, abandoning the party on whose platform he was twice elected. The security situation in northeastern Adamawa remains serious, with ISWAP and Boko Haram-linked attacks persisting across the tenure.
