Akpan Ekong Sampson
Senator, Akwa Ibom South (Senatorial) · APC
Senator Akpan Ekong Sampson was elected on the PDP platform in 2023 to represent Akwa Ibom South, defeating the APC candidate with 79,327 votes. In his first federal legislative term he chairs the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals and serves as vice chairman of the Committee on Basic and Secondary Education. His most significant legislative action is sponsoring the bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), which had passed third reading in the Senate as of 2025, though presidential assent was still outstanding at the time of reporting. On constituency delivery, his office reports doctors' call rooms commissioned at Immanuel General Hospital, Eket, and General Hospital, Ikot Abasi, an electrification project at Okon, Eket, and an N100 million student grant programme covering all twelve LGAs of the district. Community groups in at least one LGA have publicly alleged exclusion from constituency projects, and no independent budget-tracking audit of project delivery has been published. His integrity record carries the notable fact that he defected from the PDP — the platform on which he was elected — to the APC in July 2025, citing internal PDP crisis and following Governor Umo Eno's own crossing to the APC. He subsequently emerged unopposed in the APC primary for the 2027 senatorial race. No EFCC, ICPC, or court proceedings involving him have been located in the public record. Overall, his legislative and constituency record for a first-term senator is mixed: a passed education bill, active committee leadership, and visible empowerment programmes offset by unverified project delivery claims, community exclusion allegations, and a midterm party defection that raises questions about fidelity to his elected mandate.
No court or anti-graft case on public record in this archive as of compilation. Absence of a record is not a clearance.
