Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, born 1966 in Tambuwal, Sokoto State, is one of Nigeria's most prominent federal-level politicians. He served four terms in the House of Representatives (2003–2015), including as Speaker (2011–2015), and two terms as Governor of Sokoto State (2015–2023), before winning the Sokoto South senatorial seat in April 2023 on the PDP platform with 100,860 votes. In the 10th Senate, he chairs the Committee on Lands, Housing and Urban Development, through which he conducted budget oversight hearings for the 2025 budget, challenged the Ministry's N92 billion contractor debt, and endorsed the Ministry's push for a N500 billion annual housing allocation. His governorship record includes the landmark Sokoto State Right to Education Law (2016), establishment of the Sokoto State Contributory Health Care Management Scheme, and construction of the Advanced Medical Diagnostic Centre, Farufaru. Constituency interventions in his current Senate term include a personally supplemented fertilizer distribution of 4,200 bags to farmers across all seven LGAs of Sokoto South in August 2024, and the appointment of 64 constituency and LGA aides in December 2023. In December 2025, he defected from PDP to ADC, his fourth party in a career spanning five parties. In August 2025, the EFCC arrested him over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals of N189 billion during his governorship, released him on administrative bail the following day, and withheld his travel documents; no arraignment has been filed and the matter remains at investigation stage.
