Barau Jibrin has served as senator for Kano North since 2015 and has been Deputy President of the 10th Senate since June 2023, having previously chaired the Senate Committee on Appropriations and, before that, the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations (1999 to 2003). His legislative output in the 10th Senate is the most voluminous of any private member: 42 bills sponsored in 36 months, of which five have been signed into law, including the North West Development Commission (Establishment) Act signed by President Tinubu in July 2024, the Federal Medical Centre, Gwarzo (Establishment) Act, the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo (Establishment) Act, the National Identity Management Commission (Repeal and Enactment) Act, and the Agricultural Research Council (Amendment) Act. Constituency delivery includes reported infrastructure in Kano North and an active scholarship programme through the Barau I Jibrin Foundation that has sent 70 postgraduate students abroad for AI, robotics, and forensic sciences training and awarded 1,000 domestic scholarships. Against this, the record is qualified by an ICPC constituency-tracking exercise (Phase 3) that found over N1 billion in constituency projects between 2015 and 2021 were awarded to Sinti Nigeria Limited, a company in which Jibrin holds a controlling interest with his children on the board, and recommended the firm for blacklist by the Bureau of Public Procurement. A Sahara Reporters investigation in September 2025 also reported alleged shoddy project execution by companies linked to Jibrin and his son. No criminal charge or arraignment has been filed or secured against Jibrin on any of these matters. The record overall is mixed: a strong legislative throughput and demonstrable constituency and foundation activity are offset by serious unresolved conflict-of-interest allegations in project procurement.
