Muntari Mohammed Dandutse

Senator, Katsina South (Senatorial) · APC

Assessment Profile06

Muntari Mohammed Dandutse has served as Senator for Katsina South since 13 June 2023 after winning 203,245 votes under the APC banner, transitioning to the Senate from three terms as a House of Representatives member for Funtua/Dandume. His most prominent legislative contribution in the 10th Senate is the sponsorship of the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Funtua (Establishment) Bill, 2024, which reached second reading on 6 February 2025 and addresses the historic absence of any federal tertiary institution in Katsina South. As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND he has chaired public hearings on multiple federal university establishment bills and conducted oversight of JAMB, including summoning JAMB leadership over student fees and system failures. He announced that N16.6 billion has been allocated across federal and TETFund sources for the Funtua university take-off targeted for September 2025, with N5.7 billion earmarked in the 2025 federal budget alone. Constituency welfare activity includes an annual Ramadan empowerment programme: in 2024 Governor Radda launched distribution of N346.7 million in food and cash items donated by Dandutse for Funtua Zone beneficiaries. ICPC Phase 8 (February 2026) tracked 39 constituency and executive projects worth N13.5 billion across Katsina State including road projects in Funtua, with mixed findings. No EFCC or ICPC corruption finding or arraignment is on record against Dandutse. His legislative record as a committee chairman is more visible in oversight and committee reports than in private-member bill volume, and the flagship Funtua university bill has not yet been enacted. The record is mixed: demonstrable committee leadership and a clear constituency-equity rationale for the university bill are qualified by limited enacted legislation and insufficient public sourcing on the breadth of his bill sponsorship.
