Dr. Nasir Idris (Nasir Idris Kaura)

Governor of Kebbi State, Kebbi · APC

Assessment Profile06

Dr. Nasir Idris, a former national president of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and deputy president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), was elected on 15 April 2023 and sworn in on 29 May 2023 as the 9th Governor of Kebbi State. His administration has produced a mixed record across the four axes. On promises, he has made partial but documented progress on his education and civil-service-welfare pledges -- extending teacher retirement age, recruiting 2,000 teachers, and paying N75,000 minimum wage -- while the security situation has deteriorated against his safe-state commitments. On governance, he has presented and signed timely budgets for 2024 (N250 billion) and 2025 (N580.32 billion), but Kebbi retains the lowest or near-lowest internally generated revenue per capita among Nigerian states, at N16.97 billion in 2024 against a budget heavily reliant on federal allocations. On delivery, education infrastructure investment of over N9 billion in the first eight months and the KADAGE agricultural programme represent documented activity, but a June 2026 investigation revealed alleged fraud in primary school teachers' minimum-wage implementation, and the state's Wasagu/Danko district continues to suffer repeated bandit attacks. On integrity, no EFCC or court proceeding has been filed against him, and the November 2025 Maga schoolgirl abduction -- in which 25 girls were abducted and 24 were recovered within eight days -- exposed a serious security-intelligence failure that the governor attributed publicly to military negligence.
