Enyinnaya Abaribe
Senator, Abia South (Senatorial) · Labour Party
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has served Abia South since June 2007, making him one of Nigeria's longest-sitting senators at five consecutive terms. His legislative record is mixed: as Senate Minority Leader (June 2019 to May 2022) he brought a visible opposition voice to the chamber, most prominently in his January 2020 floor call for President Buhari to resign over insecurity, and he now chairs the Senate Committee on Power where he sponsored the Electricity Act Amendment Bill 2025. However, the 9th Senate's own comparative tallies credited him with only two bills in that session versus a state colleague's 25, and no independent audit of constituency project delivery in Abia South has been published. His party record is marked by four switches in under four years — PDP to APGA (2022), to ADC (late 2025), to Labour Party (May 2026) — a pattern that undermines political consistency and triggered a Senate constitutional debate over his seat. The Nnamdi Kanu surety episode, in which a Federal High Court in November 2018 ordered forfeiture of his N100 million bail bond before proceedings were later overtaken by Kanu's re-arrest, adds a notable conduct footnote. On balance, Abaribe's longevity, Minority Leader tenure, and active committee chairmanship represent meaningful Senate service, while thin independently verified constituency delivery and serial party-switching keep his overall grade at mixed.
