Senator Ireti Kingibe was sworn into the 10th Senate on 13 June 2023 as only the second woman elected to represent the FCT, defeating 20-year incumbent Philip Aduda with 202,175 votes. She chairs the Senate Committee on Women Affairs and has been a persistent, if frequently frustrated, advocate for FCT residents: in December 2024 she moved a motion on demolitions by the FCTA that forced the Senate to set up an eight-member ad hoc committee and pass a resolution directing Minister Wike to halt all non-court-ordered demolitions; in December 2025 a broader omnibus motion on FCT waste, demolitions and land revocations was rejected by the Senate as procedurally deficient. Her legislative output includes Senate Bill 287 (the FCT School of Nursing and Midwifery Establishment Bill, introduced November 2023), advocacy for additional senatorial seats for the FCT through constitutional amendment, and support for a gender-inclusion bill. On constituency delivery, her first-year project claims (listed publicly on her X account in June 2024) were subjected to independent fact-checking by DUBAWA/Premium Times, which found only 3 of 9 investigated projects correctly attributed to her tenure; several road projects were facilitated under her predecessor's appropriations. Ongoing projects, including a 50-bed hospital at Dobi, Gwagwalada, and ICT centres in Gwagwalada and Nyanya, have not been independently verified as complete. On integrity, she was aligned with the Peter Obi/Alex Otti faction in the Labour Party's prolonged post-2023 internal crisis, chaired a disciplinary panel that probed former LP Chairman Julius Abure for alleged anti-party activity and fund misappropriation, and was herself suspended by the Abure-led LP faction in May 2025 -- a suspension her allies described as illegitimate. She announced her resignation from the Labour Party in July 2025, formally completing her defection to the African Democratic Congress on 18 December 2025, citing the existence of two LP factions as constitutional justification. In June 2026 she disclosed publicly that her signature on the Senate committee report underpinning Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan's six-month suspension had been used without her having reviewed the report, raising procedural transparency concerns. No criminal charges or court proceedings have been recorded against her.
