Senator Khabeeb Mustapha (PDP, Jigawa South-West), popularly known as Senator Zanna, is a first-term senator who previously served in the 6th and 7th House of Representatives for the Jahun/Miga federal constituency. He won the February 2023 senatorial election, defeating the APC incumbent Mohammed Sabo Nakudu; a petition filed by Nakudu was dismissed by the National Assembly/Governorship and Legislative Houses Election Tribunal in Dutse on 8 September 2023 and that dismissal was upheld by the Court of Appeal in Abuja in November 2023. The senator has acknowledged that the five months of election litigation materially distracted him from constituency engagement in his inaugural year. His documented legislative output covers one co-sponsored motion on the revitalisation of Nigeria's textile industry (June 2026). Constituency-facing work includes an economic empowerment distribution of 900 goats to approximately 3,000 constituents at the NUT Secretariat in Dutse, with training in animal husbandry, and distribution of irrigation and sewing machines. His own party, PDP, declined to issue him a return ticket for 2027 following reported complaints from party loyalists and constituents of poor representation and inadequate engagement.
