Lawal Adamu Usman
Senator, Kaduna Central (Senatorial) · PDP
Senator Lawal Adamu Usman was sworn into the 10th Senate in June 2023 representing Kaduna Central on the PDP platform, having defeated APC's Muhammad Sani Abdullahi with 250,066 votes. He chairs the Senate Committee on Education (Basic and Secondary), a prominent assignment consistent with his stated priority of educational reform. His identifiable legislative output includes three sponsored bills -- a National Eye Centre (Amendment) Bill (SB 83), a Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences Kaduna Establishment Bill (SB 237), and a UBE Act Amendment Bill introduced in 2024 -- and at least two significant floor motions on Kaduna-Abuja highway insecurity and Birnin Gwari banditry. On constituency delivery his office claims 18 zonal intervention projects totalling N2.66 billion in the 2025 fiscal year, construction of 100 smart primary schools, scholarships and bursaries worth approximately N500 million, and provision of solar boreholes and transformers across Kaduna Central's seven LGAs; these are self-reported and have not been independently verified by a third-party monitor. His credibility was contested in early January 2025 when the Kaduna Elders Forum demanded his recall, citing poor representation and also questioning his account of an alleged New Year's Day assassination attempt; the senator publicly rebutted those claims. On integrity, the most significant event is his formal defection from PDP to the African Democratic Congress in March 2026 alongside eight other senators, having denied such a move as recently as mid-2025. A 2023 election tribunal dismissed certificate forgery allegations raised against him by the APC petitioner, ruling the petitioners had not proved their case to the required standard. No criminal charges or convictions are recorded against him.
