Lere Oyewumi (Olalere Oyewumi)

Senator (Deputy Minority Leader, 10th Senate), Osun West (Senatorial) · PDP (elected); defected to Accord Party March 2026

Assessment Profile06

Kamarudeen Olalere Oyewumi, known as Lere Oyewumi or Akogun, was elected Senator for Osun West in February 2023 on the PDP platform and was designated Deputy Minority Leader of the 10th Senate from July 2023. His constituency record includes road construction in Iwo (Oriolowo-Agbele and Fojugbaji Adediti roads), rehabilitation of educational facilities at St. David Anglican Grammar School Ode Omu and Community High School Odeyinka, installation of solar streetlights in Ola-Oluwa and Ikire communities, transformer installations in Irewole LGA, and multiple empowerment rounds covering over 800 beneficiaries. The 2024 Zonal Intervention Projects budget included N1.13 billion in projects for Osun West across six items including solar streetlights, grants to vulnerable persons, and motorcycle distribution -- allocated through the federal MDA system rather than directly disbursed. Legislative output is thin on independent verification: one confirmed bill is SB. 414, a Constitution (Alteration) Bill introduced at first reading in May 2024; no bill has been identified as enacted. His March 2026 defection from PDP to Accord Party -- citing PDP's national leadership crisis -- is the most consequential integrity event in his record; the defection occurred after the party he was elected on failed to field a candidate for the Osun governorship election. Overall, the record reflects modest constituency effort and a leadership role in the Senate minority, with a weak documented legislative output and a mid-term party switch.
