Lucky Aiyedatiwa became governor on 27 December 2023 following the death of Rotimi Akeredolu and won the November 2024 election outright, his mandate surviving every legal challenge up to the Supreme Court by September 2025. In under two and a half years, the administration reduced the state's domestic debt from N74 billion to N12 billion (an 82.6 percent fall per DMO data), adopted the N73,000 minimum wage ahead of many states, commissioned road and water projects across all three senatorial districts, and secured revalidation of the Ondo Deep Seaport licence. The 2025 budget of N698 billion (later revised to N490 billion due to unrealised inflows) and the 2026 budget of N524 billion reflect growing fiscal ambition, though an October 2025 civic petition to the EFCC and ICPC alleged that local-government FAAC allocations were not being passed through in full, a claim the government and the Ondo ALGON chapter denied. The 2024 Auditor General's report noted unsatisfactory record-keeping in MDAs and an unimplemented asset register requirement. Certificate forgery allegations raised by a lawyer in 2024 were dismissed by the APC screening committee and did not survive electoral tribunal proceedings. Given the short tenure and the evidence that exists, a mixed-to-above-average grade is warranted, tempered by the unresolved LG-fund transparency question and audit deficiencies.
