Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo brought sixteen years of prior legislative experience to the 10th Senate, having served in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly (including as Speaker) and in the 7th and 8th House of Representatives. In his first three years representing Nasarawa South, he sponsored at least three bills that advanced through the Senate, including the Nigeria Mines Rangers Service Establishment Bill (SB 253), which passed third reading on 21 October 2025, and a bill to establish a National Eye Centre in Doma, which the Senate passed in October 2024. He secured a N1.94 billion road budget allocation for the Lafia-Doma federal road in the 2024 Appropriation Act, compared with a cumulative N162.94 million allocated from 1999 to 2023. Constituency-facing activities include vocational training (sewing and ICT) for over 230 documented beneficiaries and a Senate motion on windstorm relief for affected LGAs in April-May 2024. He chairs the Senate Committee on Art, Culture and Creative Economy. His principal integrity issue is his mid-term departure from the PDP -- via a resignation letter dated 10 January 2026 followed by a formal defection to the African Democratic Congress on 12 March 2026 -- having been elected on the PDP ticket in 2023.
