Senator Shuaibu Isa Lau has represented Taraba North across parts of three assemblies (8th, 9th, 10th) since July 2017, when the Supreme Court ordered his installation in place of a sacked senator. His most substantive legislative contribution was sponsoring SB.106, the Public Procurement Act (Amendment) Bill which the Senate passed in December 2019, during a term when he chaired the Senate Committee on Public Procurement. He was elevated to Deputy Senate Minority Leader in February 2022, and chairs the Senate Committee on Tourism in the 10th Senate. On the constituency axis, his record is uneven: he is associated with rural electrification projects in Mayo-Lope and subsidy palliative distribution in November 2023, but community associations in 2024 accused him of neglect amid bandit violence, and stakeholders at the 2026 APC primary described the overall constituency record as showing no measurable impact. The Jalingo-Numan federal road, awarded at N11 billion in 2017 and traversing his zone, had completed only 11 of 103 kilometres by 2022 despite his role on the Senate Works committee that year. A youth group petitioned the EFCC in May 2021 alleging criminal conspiracy and diversion of resources to the tune of N7.2 billion; no formal charge or arraignment arising from that petition has been located in public records as of June 2026. He defected from PDP to APC in February 2026, having been elected three times on the PDP platform.
