Senator Sunday Marshall Katung was elected on 25 February 2023 to represent Kaduna South Senatorial District on the PDP platform, polling 138,246 votes. He is a lawyer and former member of the House of Representatives (2015-2019, Jaba/Zangon Kataf). His three years in the 10th Senate show a substantive legislative record anchored on healthcare, agriculture and education. He sponsored SB.355, the Federal Medical Centre Act (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which the Senate passed in May 2025 and which awaits House concurrence; he also sponsored SB.893, the Sickle Cell Disorder Research and Therapy Centres (Establishment) Bill, 2025, which passed second reading in October 2025. In June 2026 he moved a motion on the urgent need to revive the Kaduna-Kano textile industry corridor, adopted by the Senate. On constituency delivery, the Federal University of Applied Sciences Kachia began academic activities in 2025 on the site of the EFCC-forfeited Nok University, with Katung credited as the legislator who pushed the enabling framework; he secured a five-year N8 billion medical-equipment partnership with US-based Project CURE for ten general hospitals in Kaduna South, and unveiled Project 365, a hepatitis-elimination programme targeting 620,000 residents across the district's eight LGAs. His advocacy on southern Kaduna security is documented but has not translated into concrete federal legislative measures beyond public statements and announced collaboration with the Chief of Defence Staff on a Forward Operation Base in Kauru LGA. On integrity, Katung defected from PDP to APC on 31 October 2025 after publicly denying defection rumours as recently as October 2025; he cited PDP's leadership crisis as justification. His wife, Abigail Marshall Katung, was the subject of a UK High Court civil recovery order in June 2025, with the National Crime Agency seizing a approximately GBP 1 million Alwoodley property; the court identified Senator Katung as the alleged Nigerian source of GBP 360,000 transferred via informal channels, though the judgment explicitly did not find Mrs Katung cognisant of any criminality.
