Yunus Abiodun Akintunde won the Oyo Central Senatorial District seat for the APC in February 2023 with 108,776 votes, defeating PDP's Bisi Ilaka. A post-election tribunal petition by Ilaka was dismissed, and the outcome was affirmed on appeal by November 2023. In the 10th Senate he chairs the Committee on Environment, an assignment aligned with his doctorate in energy and environmental studies. His documented legislative output includes the Federal University of Geomatics, Oyo (Establishment) Bill 2024 (SB 496), which passed second reading in March 2025 and was referred to the Committee on TETFund; and a reported bill on the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo. Constituency delivery is documented across the commissioning of six projects at the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo in his first 100 days; advocacy that preceded the Federal Executive Council approval in March 2024 of a contract for the Ayegun-Oleyo road to Messrs Xenon Ltd; an empowerment programme for 215 tailors across the eleven local governments valued at N40 million; and a pledge to install 120 solar-powered boreholes and 10,000 solar streetlights across the 118 wards of the district. Campaign promise delivery is partially evidenced. No EFCC, ICPC, or court proceedings against Akintunde have been located in public records. Party membership in the APC has been stable throughout.
